Imagine how it feels to witness two people you love and care about fighting…every night.  Johnny and Courtney know how it feels.  They huddled in bed listening to their Dad’s angry voice and hearing their Mom cry.   The fear was overwhelming, especially the night the ambulance arrived to rescue their Mom, and care for her injuries.   The nurse in the emergency room comforted Johnny and Courtney and explained to Mom that they could all go to the Safe House.  The nurse made a difference.

Because of Women’s Resource Center (“WRC”), Johnny, Courtney and Mom had options.  They lived at WRC’s Safe House for two months.  Because of the Safe House option, they were safe…and soon, they were living in WRC’s Transitional Housing program.  There, with the support of an advocate and attorney, Johnny, Courtney and Mom were provided with another option offered by WRC…and, importantly, they were able rebuild their lives while remaining free from violence.

WRC made a difference. As a result of the dedication, support and the assistance of WRC, Mom secured a new full time job with benefits for herself and her two children.  Through her hard work and unwavering persistence to forge ahead, Mom made a difference and was even able to purchase brand new backpacks and school clothes for her children…a luxury the children never had prior to their engagement with WRC’s programs.

Last year, that one Mom along with approximately 1,800 adults and children throughout Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties were provided with critical and at times life-saving services through WRC.

You can make a difference.  The needs are many, and they are growing.  At the same time, resources are shrinking.

Please make a difference by donating to the WRC’s Annual Fund Drive.

WRC is marking its 35th anniversary this year, and we need your help.  Your gift will help purchase groceries for children in the Safe House, provide immediate assistance at the hospital to any Mom who needs us, and buy new furnishings for the Transitional Housing apartments.  Your gift will also help restore children’s programs that reassure young victims and witnesses to violence that they are not to blame, that there are people they can talk to, and that healing is possible.

Sincerely,

Peter Danchak, PNC Bank Regional President NEPA                     Mark DeStefano, WRC Board President
