Last year, over 2,350 women and children throughout Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties who were victims of domestic violence and sexual assault received critical and at times life saving services through the Women's Resource Center. This was made possible in part through financial support from the individual members of our community.

Since 1976, we have been passionately committed to ending domestic violence and sexual assault and will continue our mission during the years ahead. However, passion, commitment and mission themselves are not enough. It takes money to run our counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy programs. Funds are constantly needed to manage and maintain our Safe House, which last year provided shelter for 154 women and children. In addition, financial resources are necessary to continue our educational programs, where last year we were able to reach and teach over 4,791 elementary, middle and high school students about domestic violence and sexual assault.

We've made significant accomplishments that we're proud to share with you. For instance, during the last 12 months the WRC helped nearly 100 women obtain apartments where they created a safe, non-violent environment for themselves and their children. The Barbara J. Hart Justice Center provided legal services to 61 women that included informed navigation through our legal system, solid representation during life saving court proceedings and successful Protection From Abuse orders. This included winning cases at the Pennsylvania State Superior Court. Moreover, our Advocacy and Action Program has evolved to include a new pathway for women to enhance their safety, become self-sufficient and be free to parent their children.
