Susquehanna County Program Services

FREE and CONFIDENTIAL services offered regardless of income, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, marital status, age, country of origin, and mental and physical ability.

WRC advocates partner with program participants by mutually educating, advocating, strategically planning, and taking action. Services of the Advocacy and Action Program meet the underlying goals of justice, autonomy, restoration, and safety for survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence.

  • Serves adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their significant others.
  • 24 Hour crisis response, support, advocacy, accompaniment, safe house, and information and referral are available.
  • Civil legal assistance and advocacy available to survivors of abuse and assault by referral only through WRC.
  • Trained advocates respond in person or over the telephone with crisis counseling and support, advocacy, and accompaniment for victims to the local emergency room department, court hearings, police interviews, and other legal proceedings.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Support Groups and Women's Meetings-
Individuals gather for support, to share information and experiences, and to organize events and advocacy efforts. The meetings and groups are open to adult and teen survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. Contact WRC for futher information.
Potluck Suppers-
Isolation is a significant experience for survivors of abuse and assault. Rural communities provide an additional burden of isolation. Informal potluck suppers are organized on a monthly basis to exchange good food and enjoy a program or speaker with family and friends. Contact WRC for further information.
April- National Sexual Assault Awareness Month-
WRC organizes community events and publicity around the impact of sexual violence. Survivors of abuse and assault are encouraged to participate in the planning. To get involved contact the Community Action Program director.
October- National Domestic Violence Awareness Month-
WRC organizes community events around the impact of domestic violence on the community, families, and individuals. Survivors of abuse and assault are encouraged to participate in the organizing. To get involved, contact the Community Action Program director.

History of WRC in Susqehanna County

The WRC satellite office was first opened in Montrose, Pennsylvania in 1990. The WRC Susquehanna County based office is managed by a full-time program director and two advocates. The program receives additional support and resources from the WRC sage house, the main counseling/advocacy facility, the legal staff of the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center, and the administrative offices in Lackawanna County. Read a full WRC history.
